● 6/9/2015 Guangzhou Municipal Government and Sun Yat-Sen University signed the Guangzhou Supercomputer Centre’s Capital Assets Management Entrust Agreement, marking a new beginning of NSCC-GZ’s development.


● 8/2015 The number of Tianhe-2’s users reached 500.


● 13/7/2015 For the fifth consecutive time, Tianhe-2 was ranked as the most powerful supercomputer in the world during the International Supercomputing Conference 2015 held in Frankfurt, Germany.


● 6/2015 The number of Tianhe-2’s users reached 400.


● 18/2/2015 National Supercomputer Centre in Guangzhou was put on the entity list of US’s Export Administration Regulation (EAR).


● 17/11/2014 Tianhe-2 remained as the world’s most powerful supercomputer for the fourth consecutive time on the TOP500 list, moreover,it topped the chart of HPCG, becoming the first supercomputer to win both awards. 


● 23/6/2014 During the International Supercomputing Conference 2014 held in Leipzig, Germany, Tianhe-2 triple-crowned the Top500 list.


● 1/4/2014 NSCC-GZ began to provide trial service to the public. 


● 11/2013 For the second time, Tianhe-2 was ranked No.1 on the Top500 list.


● 11/2013 The construction of National Supercomputer Centre (NSCC-GZ) was officially granted by the National Department of Science and Technology, making Guangzhou Supercomputer Centre the youngest and fastest National Supercomputer Centers in China.


● 10/2013 The first-phase system of Tianhe-2 was moved and reinstalled into the National Supercomputer Centre in Guangzhou.


● 6/2013 The first-phase system of Tianhe-2 was completed. With a peak performance of 5.49 PFlops and a sustained performance of 3.39 PFlops (twice the speed of America’s Titan supercomputer system), Tianhe-2 took the first spot on the TOP500 list of the world’s fastest supercomputers 


● 30/5/2012 To open up the application market, the initial system of Tianhe-2 jointly developed by NUDT and SYSU came online, and began to offer application service and training programs to the public.


● 16/5/2012 Hosted by the mayor of Guangzhou city, Mr. Jianhua Chen, the first meeting on the construction of Guangzhou Supercomputer Centre was held, during which the east campus of Sun Yat-Sen University in Panyu, Guangzhou, was designated as the site for Tianhe-2.


● 26/3/2012 The municipal government of Guangzhou and the National University of Defense Technology signed an agreement to co-develop the high performance computer, Tianhe-2, which officially started the construction of Guangzhou Supercomputer Center (National Supercomputer Centre in Guangzhou). 


● 25/11/2011 The strategic co-operation agreement was signed by four parties, the provincial government of Guangdong, the municipal government of Guangzhou, the National University of Defense Technology and Sun Yat-Sen University, to apply for the National 863 Project in China’s 12th Five-Year Plan for the research and development of high performance computer.
